Majlinda Bregu, PhD – Chair of EU Integration Committee& National Council on EU Integration, MP Democratic Party
Mrs. Majlinda Bregu is the Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration in the Albanian Parliament. From March 2015 Mrs. Bregu holds also the position of the Chairwoman of the National Council on European Integration which is the highest consultative body on European integration that promotes and guarantees the inclusive cooperation among political forces, public institutions and civil society.
Mrs. Bregu is a former minister of European Integration a position she held from March 2007 – September 2013 and Government Spokeperson. She is an MP since 2005 (Democratic Party). A former Chair of the EU- Albania SAA Parliamentary Committee till 2007.
Mrs. Majlinda Bregu graduated from the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Tirana in 1996. She holds a PhD in Sociology (2002-2005), and a Master’s degree in Social and Political Science. After graduation in 1996, Mrs. Bregu started working as a professor and lecturer of “Research Methods in Social Sciences” and “Academic Writing”. In 2004 she was appointed as the national coordinator of the Gender Institute, established for the first time at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Mrs. Bregu also had a very intense experience working as a documentary journalist. The first Albanian documentary films after ‘ 90- dedicated to the poignant issues of trafficking of women and children and domestic violence hasher authorship.
More severe punishments at the Penal Code in domestic violence and abuse of children; online media responsability on non publishing hate speech and sexiest language comments as well as others, are her personal legislative proposals.
In 2005 she interrupted her
academic career to be involved in the politics.
